Technology kit

The Infinity Technology Kit is a multimedia hardware and software system for converting standard PCs into easy to use modern engineering design environments with a wide array of sophisticated capabilities. These capabilities bring to life the engineering concepts taught in the Infinity Project's engineering curriculum. The pre-designed lab experiments that come with the software allow students to see first hand the full range of engineering experiences of envisioning, designing, and testing modern technology.

The technology used in the Infinity Technology Kit is based upon Texas Instruments' advanced Digital Signal Processor (DSP) chips and a new and innovative graphical programming environment, called Visual Application Builder, designed and developed by one of the INFINITY Project's partners, Hyperception.

How to Order: If you are a high school and want to order our high school kit, please download this PDF form.

If you are a university, use this PDF form to order the university kit.

Capabilities: A PC with the Infinity Technology Kit is capable of an extremely wide array of "real-time" engineering applications ranging from sophisticated audio, image, and video processing, to a wide array of advanced graphical mathematical operations incorporating real data sets. This system has been designed to acquire data in real time from both microphones and video cameras and simultaneously execute advanced mathematical operations at a rate of 30 million mathematical operations per second. This power allows students to create and test for example new Internet technologies, or develop and evaluate new wireless communication systems.

Components:

  • DSP Board: Texas Instruments DSP hardware board with TMS320C31 Digital Signal Processor (DSK board)
  • DSP Software: Visual Application Builder graphical component-oriented DSP (VAB software)
  • Accessories include: PC Powered Speakers, PC Microphone with preamp, Web Camera (optional), Jack Converter, Audio Cable, AC Power Supply, Glasses (Red/Blue), 9 Volt battery

Installation: This kit easily installs onto a standard PC with minimum configuration of 486/66 Mhz PC compatible or greater, Windows 95 or greater with sound card. For a complete guide, please follow this link to download a PDF file.
